Hello! Wassup??
Until next time,
Because the music festival in India is closer than it appears to be!
It might be an annual affair, but Coachella is an event fashionistas around the world wait for, even if they’re not present there themselves. Reason: Fashion inspiration like no other! You have your favorite celebs kicking back in style and showing off their smokin’ bodies in styles crazy enough to be saved only for Coachella. Breezy, bohemian and all that jazz, yes, but so much variation within that narrow scope that it can only be called a fashion miracle.
Therefore, on cue, we list the outfits we feel we can draw inspiration from for nights out, days in and everything in between:
The Jenner sisters have achieved a Coachella hall-of-fame status as far as festival fashion goes. This year too, they work the season’s most significant trend: the sleeves— Kendall in oversize ones and Kylie does the asymmetrical.
Wear Kendall’s look to: A movie with friends
Wear Kylie’s look to: A sassy party
Much as we love our figure-flattering skinnies, gotta admit, wide pants are the bomb for the sultry summers. Better still, if they’re in white or pastel shades. Like KB and KJ here. While Kate opts for a cleaner look, Kendall does the whole Western enchilada with the hat and the bling!
Wear Kate’s look to: A Sunday brunch
Wear Kendall’s look to: (Minus the hat) A pool party
Not all Coachella fashion has to be fussy and fringy and beyond comprehension. Emma Roberts proves just that in her gingham dress that features cute li’l ruffled sleeve cuffs. And with a nice touch of lavender sandals.
Wear her look to: Pretty much anywhere!
Frayed denim shorts and cutesy crop tops, someone will always be seen in this combination every year. And why not, they’re the Coachella staples, whether roughed up with leather boots ala Alessandra or a daintier approach like Jamie’s.
Wear Jamie’s look to: A stroll on the beach
Wear Alessandra’s look to: A road trip with the gals
That face and that body! Aite moving on, Chanel Iman does the ultimate Boho girl in OTT fringes but somehow still manages to keep it clutter-free. Definitely one of the best look this year!
Wear this look to: Your next music festival. Duh!
Summer is in full swing and while we’re a tad bit put off by the sweltering heat (seriously, doesn’t winter happen for like exactly 10 days in our country?—if you can even call it winter, that is), let’s look at the brighter side instead. The excuse for a wardrobe change! And boy does it get reeely bright this year. From pop colors to quirky embellishments to lamé and sequins, this is one riot of sunshine! But lovers of minimalism, despair not, the whites and neutrals aren’t going anywhere either. On the other end of the spectrum, head-to-toe white rings loud and a key fashion statement this year is layering an oversize white shirt with a black hoodie or jumper.
Team Sassy has shortlisted their top favs of the season to give you a handy guide when out shopping:
Hello sunshine! When we said riot of colors, it wasn’t a casual remark. The king of pop colors is on the list of biggest summer trends and how! And there’s a wide range of shades to choose from, so you can feel at home with either warmer or cooler tones that best go with your skin tone (lemon or chartreuse for people with cooler undertones, ochres and ambers for those with ruddier undertones).
Sleeves have been one of the biggest statement-making parts of the garment since last season and it’s not changing anytime soon. But unlike last season’s bell-sleeves, slits along the sleeves seem to have taken centerstage this summer of ’17. And as long as we’re in the region, don’t rule out poofy bishop sleeves either.
Just randomly pick any celeb of your liking. Or fashionista. Or their assistants. And you’ll know what we mean. Lamé has made it to everyone’s wardrobes already. And don’t you dismiss it for partywear either. Lamé is perfectly acceptable daywear as of this moment and this season. Just style it with something less obtrusive and let the fabric shine (get it? 😉
And speaking of partywear, oh hello truckloads of sequins! Bling is back with a bang and it’s blingier than ever and literally everywhere to be seen. Even on pajamas and track pants. Nah, we’re kidding. Haha you wish! We’re not! Ornate trackpants are testimony to the fresh silhouette sequins are being paired with and unlike two seasons back, it’s not about skimpy bodycons anymore, rather more relaxed silhouettes that effortlessly can go from day to night.
Because we love baring our shoulders so much (why else would we make deadlifts instead of cakes happen to our lives?), the off-shoulder and shoulder cutouts make it through at least one more year. But the symmetry is slightly off this time and the overall silhouette looks more like a deconstruction of a shirt than anything else, which we feel is incredibly cool.
Holy Moly! (In Chandler Bing’s voice) Could stripes BE any bigger? We’re almost sure this season is what will be recorded in history as the year stripes were THE fashion statement. And it’s hard to miss it too, with all the candy colors and the bold zig-zags of lines, none of your dainty monochrome stuff from previous seasons. Not that monochrome or pinstripes are out, because at the end of the day, it just has to be stripes, in some form or the other!
The other predominant color besides yellow this year is pink (did we hear a Hallelujah?). And in varied shades too. Think everything from blush to Barbie pinks, paired with tulle and satins too, nonetheless. This is one happy party for everyone who lives for mushy romance in their fashion. And no complaints there, sometimes girls need to pull out all stops and get downright girly!
There will always be a set of people who just cannot get on board with the candy colors and the jungle of prints. They need whites to save their lives! And white they get this season. And head-to-toe too! And it’s a perfect base for all the neutral trenchcoats or the sporty parka jackets that are making big statements. So go ahead, don’t be shy to get your white on.
Shirtdresses are lifesavers y’all. Nothing that can be slipped on within a second has looked cooler or sassier. Run your errands in them or wear on a date, you’ll never be under or overdressed in a shirtdress if paired with the right shoes. And fashion recognizes this and rewards us with another full season of this trend (because trends can be tyrannical and fashion and be a bitch, when they make us let go of stuff we love).

Hello babes-who’re-mortified-with-all-the-Valentine’s-posts-on-social-media,
Join the club! Being single sucks on V-Day right? Wrong! So utterly wrong! You want that life-size teddy bear to hug to sleep? Get yourself one. Them delectable roses? Know what? The florist doesn’t discriminate. Just go buy yourself a bunch of them. You’ll be pleased to know they smell just as great. Being single is a choice you’ve made and you have to live with it, no matter what. Why not focus on the perks then?
Perk #1:
You don’t need to shave, wax or do your hair! How cool is that? You can lie on your bed all day in sweats, owning your hairy legs and messy hair and cramming your face with cheetos and no one’s gonna judge.
Perk #2:
Someone (God bless his soul) foresaw this catastrophe and made Netflix and chill for this very day. And as if that wasn’t enough, someone also invented binge-watching. Hello Harvey Specter!
Perk #3:
There’s a reason we call her a “bestie”. She’s literally the best thing that has ever happened to you. And the best person to hang out with on this day. (Unless of course she’s out on a date, in which case, Hello again, Harvey!)
Perk #4:
Spend your hard earned money on your own self for a change. Don’t cry over not getting gifts, witness and acknowledge the big bucks you save as a result of not buying anyone any gifts. So you gift yourself instead! Spa day? Imported chocolates? You got it!
Perk #5
You’re not alone in this. Join million others who’re just as single and gang up together to banter on the perks of being single, just like we’re doing right now, so join the conversation maybe?
xoxo,
And extra bucketload of love,
So, it’s just a couple more days to the biggest party night of the year and you’re so excited and you…wait, you still haven’t thought of what to wear. You rummage through your favorite section of your closet where you stack all your party dresses and turns out you’ve worn all of them. Worse, you aren’t exactly feeling very affluent at the moment to splurge on a new dress (thank you, demonetization!). Final nail in the coffin, your crush is going to be at the party and it’s officially going to be a face-off night between you and that sorority queen (*grunt*) who’s also a part-time model (*groan*).
First off, breathe.
You’re not alone in this, and together we shall rise from this catastrophe, won’t we? Here are some failsafe methods that let you be your own fairy godmother and create that fabulous party dress:
You’re allowed to repeat
Yes, you read that right. When short in cash, you need to be tall and proud in creativity. With just a change around in accessories, you’d be surprised how you can create a whole new outfit with the same dress. Below is an example of how a simple LBD can be spun around to create fabulous new looks each time.

Seek inspiration
Don’t be shy to blatantly lift off of tumblr and instagram. They’re there for a reason. And the reason is inspiration. Learn from the experts how to style yourself to stand out of the crowd. Educate yourself on cuts, color, silhouette and trends of the moment to stay ahead of the game even when short on resources.
When in doubt, add sparkle
Sequins and glitter go hand in hand with party styling. If you’re totally clueless as to what to wear and not look out of place, always go for something that shines, be it a sequin tank top or embellished shoes or a full blown iridescent dress. And subsequently, you shine too. If sequins are too much for you, satin is a great alternative to get the gloss on. Bonus, satin is so hot right now!
Shop the ‘Swagger Bombs’ sequin top here
Makeup saves the day
You’re never going to be flawless if you can’t draw more attention to your face than your dress. Prep yourself before with a deep-tissue facial and a good slathering of moisturizer. When working with makeup, always remember the base is the most important, so choose your foundation and concealer with care. Glossy metallic eyes are the hotcakes of the moment. Or go for grunge with dark berry lips and smoke on your eyes.
Look for budget buys
A great outfit needn’t always be expensive. Don’t let price tags dishearten you. If you have followed point number 2 well, you can recreate your favorite looks on a more affordable budget. Keep track of discounts and offers by your favorite brands and avail of them. Below are some great budget buys that you pick up at an additional 20% discount if you pay with credit or debit cards or net banking (hello again, demonetization!)

One word. Bohemian.
Yep, the favorite word to go by when putting together looks for any music festival this world has to offer. This easy breezy style aesthetic is perfect for music festivals for many reasons. It’s comfortable enough to swing and jive the whole day round and it’s chic! My god, is it chic! No wonder we go back to the late 1960s and early 70s hippies for inspiration every year this time around.
And so with the Sunburn and Weekenders officially underway, we see a serious need to keep ready a stack of outfit changes in mind to help us see through all the fun, minus the stress of repeating last year’s looks. Here’s a guide to knock it out of the ballpark while still staying uber comfy:
Crochet
A no-brainer. Crochet has been around the festival scene for as long as Coachella has existed, no kidding. Wear them long or cropped, as maxi dresses or as capes, it’s the one thing that will never go out of style.
Fringe
Fringes are undoubtedly the next best thing after crochet when it comes to Boho chic. And extremely versatile too! Pair fringes with suede and you have a rugged feel, but when paired with prints and wispy silhouettes, the same become feminine.

Off shoulder
Don’t even get me started on how big a trend this is at the moment. And right in sync with the free-spirited Boho glamour. Off-the-shoulder styles are to be seen in all forms: cutouts, cold-shoulders and strapless.

Cropped
What are music festivals if not the perfect excuse to show off that well-earned midriff? Cropped tops, besides being smokin’ hot, have one more important advantage: they compliment all the body jewelry just so much better.
Prints
When all else fails, prints save the day! Versatility is the other name for prints, and you can take your look from messy to sassy with just the change of a print. Tribal, psychedelic and kitschy prints are all in tandem with the Boho spirit.

So long!
xoxo,
(Without looking like a total knock off) (AND at a fraction of the cost)
Do you often catch yourself gaping at Deepika Padukone in a cutout swimsuit on the Vogue cover? Or maybe you simply can’t get enough of Priyanka Chopra on her several American TV appearances this year? Because boy the woman won’t stop slaying! And then do you dive into depression because you know their impeccable looks are a result of the (extremely expensive) expertise of top-of-the-line stylists and more expensive designer labels, and you have to spill millions of dollars that you don’t have, to even hope to look like them?
Well, it’s true.
But what’s also true is that the inspiration your favorite celeb offers is totally free of cost. Whether it’s DP’s super glam turnouts or Piggy Chops’ Baywatch sultriness, you can pick and choose your favorite style icon and channel their fashion aesthetic without having to copy each of their outfits. In fact, it’s even more fun this way because you still get to keep it original while paying homage to your icon. And need I point out to all the money you’ll save? But it’s not as easy done as said, is it? I mean, how often have we spotted people on the streets that have tried and failed miserably? Let’s not get into the numbers actually. Therefore, responsible as I feel for you darlings, I bring you a handy HOW-TO guide. Read on:
Favorite celeb or favorite look?
Are you head over heels in love with one beauty you would give up an arm and a leg to look like? Or do you find certain celebs impressing you at certain times? In other words, do you have favorite celeb or do you have certain favorite looks sported by them? Decide how much of an influence a particular icon has on you and to what extent you would like to follow their style. The looks you pick out largely depend on this decision made. The best example of the first case scenario are the human Barbies and Kens of the world. When one is hell-bent on looking as close to their favorite style icon as possible, you wouldn’t believe the drastic measures that can and have been taken. However, it is only healthy that you follow the second case scenario because your beloved Miss Sassy here can’t stress enough on the importance of keeping it real.
Before you splurge on clothes, shoes and bags, pause and understand that what makes our glam girls look so glam has more to do with how the clothes look on them than how those clothes make them look. Because before the outfits go, the hours at the Pilates classes and the early morning green juices have happened. Getting into shape and getting rid of the zits don’t hurt nobody. Not just because it’s the most effective way to look great but also the healthiest.
Identify a single style aesthetic
Every person, irrespective of how versatile they are required to dress, has a singular fashion sensibility that they abide by. Like when you think of Audrey Hepburn you immediately think classic, minimalistic girly fashion, whether it’s in her dainty dresses or her midi skirts. And Katharine Hepburn screams androgyny. Even when she wore dresses (rolled up sleeves, people).
Your favorite icon too lives by a fashion principle and it is this principle in fact, that lends individuality to clothes and transforms fashion to style. I’d say cultivate your own, but if you wish to closely follow your favorite, identify theirs and make it your own.
Spot the trends
By requirement alone, celebs wear the freshest of trends. Sometimes even before the designer publicly presents them. Privileges, sigh. Spot the trends your icon wears the most and find high street alternatives. Thanks to Style.com, the time difference between the fashion week showcasings of the season’s trends and the high street remodeling of the same, is greatly diminished. Which is why the cold shoulders appeared on store windows almost immediately after the 70s style was declared hot at the 2015 Spring Summer.

The other great news are the pre-loved and rental stores that have taken the market by the storm. Previously owned clothing and accessories up for sale mean that you do not just settle for high street knock offs, you buy your own Chanels and Choos for a far lesser price. Or, renting them for a particular period of time is always an option.
With ever-increasing options like these, it’s easier than ever to channel your inner actor or supermodel. All that remains is a little bit of awareness and a whole lot of love for both fashion and the fashion sensibility of your subject of admiration. Dress away!

Barely 1 year old and featured on The Times of India three times already!
Yes, there’s a milestone we’re pretty pumped about reaching. When the city is buzzing with fashion labels galore, Brand Sassy Stripes has most certainly earned its place as the hottest new kid on the block. The recent fashion story was based on our Holiday season ’16 collection that was beautifully presented by the Times fashion team in their Autumn-Winter editorial spread.

The thought behind our latest capsule was to facilitate a wardrobe for the free-spirited millennials who are more likely to seize the festive holidays to make their travel plans come true than anything else. The Editorial story
The clothes picked out for the Autumn Winter story was a mixed bag of culottes, cold shoulders, neutrals and ruffles, and shot in the very decadent premises of the Tollygunge Club. Shreyanka Mazumdar, fashion writer with the Times group conceived and executed the story while accomplished photographer Upahar Biswas captured the frames. Celebrity makeup artist and one of the most revered in the city, Aniruddha Chakladar was present to further pretty up beautiful city models, Arpita Sinha and Diksha Katyal. The story was run both in Kolkata and Mumbai.

Hi there pretties!
As big a fashion fanatic I might be, I admit one of the major downsides of fashion and trends is that they change so friggin’ fast! You barely get over your obsession over that fringed coat before it’s time to put it away for the new season. That’s so unfair. And the change of affairs manifests the best during the turn of seasons.
Seasons. The word that is so fused together with fashion and trends, that you can barely have one without the other. And at the transition point of every season comes the necessity of transition in your wardrobe too. And we are at a similar transition point right this moment. And yes, I’m aware that it is a hugely daunting task.
So how do you smoothly sail from one season to another? In between winter and summer comes spring. But what comes in between a trenchcoat-leather-leggings-knee-high-boots pairing and a floaty linen maxi? And more importantly, how do you make longer use of your winter clothes and take them into summer? Here’s a handy guide to take you through an effortless transition:
1. Light layering: While you must put away your furry peacoats, don’t ditch the lighter jackets and vests just yet. Wear them in bright colors and prints to suggest an onset of spring while still staying covered enough.
2. Darker colors: While you’ve been wearing browns and navies and blacks all through winter, it might be weird to switch to lighter pastels all of a sudden. To solve this problem, wear your single layers in darker colors, like a sheath dress at work in navy blue or aubergine, or a pant suit in pinstripe black. This will make your wardrobe transition from winter to summer less conspicuous.
3. Vests, capes, scarves: Sleeveless vests and swishy capes are great options for light layering too. The ones in tribal prints, especially, have major boho vibes which make them ideal for summer layering. Scarves too, do heavyduty balancing on the transitional front.
4. One summer element at a time: Including just one or at the most, two, summer elements in your look will stop it from screaming goodbye winter! Wear a dark red bodysuit inside a monochrome pantsuit, or a white shirt dress under a tailored blazer, and keep the look balanced.
5. Accessorize: Accessories are your safest bet to play around with elements from both winter and summer. So while your OOTD might be denims with a dark solid shirt and gray suede boots, you might consider adding a playful touch of a psychedelic print tote in rainbow hues. Mixing is the key.
All downsides aside, I believe the upside to in-between-season dressing is that this is the best time to experiment. You have the liberty to mix your heavy winter outerwear with slinky summer slip dresses and nobody is going to judge because hello, you’re just going through a phase that will pass! So have fun, ladies, while the season, or should I say, the transition, lasts.
xoxo,
“Sassy is not just about clothes, it’s the badassery”
Er…no one said the above quote really. I just made that up. But heck! How true are those words! I know, I know…sometimes I’m nothing less than a super genius. It’s not easy being one though. Folks say I epitomize sass. I have to agree, of course. I’m called Miss Sassy for a reason. You see, being generic is mostly boring. Sometimes it could be fun. Like when the doomsday arrives and the earth is destroyed to bits and there’s no world, so there’s no life, and so there’s no room for being sassy. You get my point.
I don’t remember exactly when I decided not to be dumb. Maybe that time when I saw some bloke wear head to toe red and white (You could’ve simply draped yourself in a canopy honey, would’ve saved you some bucks) or whenever I see a set of over-plucked eyebrows (or maybe they were going for a very adventurous twin sperm look, who knows). Whatever it was the day that I decided to be, you know, normal (yes, sassy is normal, cluelessness is not!) I assumed the responsibility of passing this valuable knowledge over. Well, okay, it might mean that I’m a bit mean (see what I did there?) but at least I’m trying to make the world a better place. “Better” means stylish of course, it always does.
So dear dahlings, before you pull out another trapeze dress that makes you look like you’re wearing a tent (which might still actually be better than the red-and-white canopy though) or squeeze your post-festive collagen into that tiny bustier, much to your discomfort as well as the discomfort of onlookers, pay heed to Miss Sassy here. Why you ask? I could give you a million reasons, but for now let’s just stick to one: Sassy always has a lot of fun. So unless you want to sign up for Generic Inc. you might as well follow my advice. Because I hate bumping into eyesores on the street. You might not value how you look but I take my people-gazing hobby very, very seriously. And everywhere I look I want to see beautiful butterflies. You don’t wanna hear “Do you prefer fashion victim or ensembly challenged?” do you?
xoxo,
